milt hinton (1910-2000) performed this 5 years before his death, being 85 years old.
it is the sweetest thing i've seen recently.

brilliant bass player and jazz photographer.

that the 'batman: black and white' series is wonderful i don't have to mention i hope. some of the stories included in the series are for sure one of the best batman stories ever. if u haven't red, do that, really the best artists were working on this title. the idea was that each of them had 8 pages to use and it had to be drawn/painted in black and white only.

but what i've just found out is that there is also a motion comics with the same title and what is more you can find all the episodes on youtube! so go ahead and get dragged into the noir gotham city...

it's just incredible how beautiful bass can be.
as far as i remember i heard him consciously for the first time as a fully committed fan of Keith Jarrett - they played together in '60 and '70.
what he did with Ornette Coleman is incredible (one of my favourite groups).

his Liberation Music Orchestra the greatest (check out Not In Our Name, one of myfavourite cd's).

duet with Pat Metheny just beautiful (one of my favourite cd's).

trio with Jan Garbarek & Egberto Gismonti invincible (one of my favourite groups).

i don't know who this guy is but i think i'm afraid of him...
well it's not that surprising that he uses tarantino & lynch as heroes in his comic strips.

anyway, this guy (his name is hoogerbrugge - here's how not to pronounce it) does animations, illustrations, comic strips, music clips and water-colours to name a few.

i got to know him through his modern living / neurotica series he made between 1998 and 2001 which started as animated gif loops.

then came NAILS made between 2002 and 2006. i really do appreciate a possibility to interact with his animations.

but i'm definitely for the HOTEL (2002-2006), an interactive tale which comprise animations and comics in kind of gaming form.
(when u're done with it u may wish to sign up for preconstruction)

there're also pro stress, his still updated comic strips and water-colours - my favourite is this one.

anyway, just surf through his website, lots of good stuff.

i've just found out, that heinz edelmann, a german graphic designer, the one who created psychedelic image of the beatles in yellow submarine and won the contest to design the mascot of the expo '92, died at age 75 on july 21. RIP

THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN is really incredible!
it's a jack arnold's screen version from '57 of richard matheson's novel which tells u how it is when one day u start to shrink...

i always liked when these kind of ROBINSON CRUSOE or THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND style stories about humans trying to rise from hopeless situation, were set in different situations; like THE MOON PALACE by paul auster (where the central park plays the role of a deserted island), LIFE OF PI by yann martel (i didn't like it that much, but the deserted island there is changed for ... a boat with ... a tiger on it ...) and perhaps many others.

BUT! they didn't show how he fights the tarantula! AWESOME!

rutu modan grew up in israel. she writes beautiful comics which action often takes place in tel aviv.

i red her short stories gathered in 'jamilti' (a page from one of the stories below) and ran through the famous 'exit wounds' (it was in danish which doesn't help) - there is a sample of a few pages online.

there is also 'mixed emotions', her 6 part graphic blog written for the ny times - my favourite is 'queen of the scottish fairies'! it's wonderful!

we watched 'me and you and everyone we know' (2005) by miranda july yesterday.
i have to tell u, it's still fantastic. if this is not encouraging enough for u to watch it, maybe a special jury prize at the sundance film festival and four prizes at the cannes film festival, including the camera d’or will.

why him? cause he's at least one of the best.
how often do u read comic book which makes u cry?

i advertise JIMMY CORRIGAN as the best comics i've ever red since i'd red it. and i'm going to do it now. read it!
for me it's a must.

chris ware was discovered by art spiegelman and worked with him in RAW.
his most notable works are 'ACME Novelty Library' (1993-present) and 'JIMMY CORRIGAN the smartest kid on earth' (2000). you can also download and read his 'building stories' made for the NY Times FUNNY PAGES but read ware's introduction 1st.

he also designs paper toys to be cut and assemble. take a look at the gallery of toys designed by chris ware or even print and assemble your own toy!

p.s. one more thing, he's a musician and plays banjo in his ragtime band as well as writes periodical about ragtime called 'the ragtime ephemeralist'.

i bought a stylophone last week.

it's vintage, plastic, electronic, it is supposed to fit into my pocket (but it doesn't) and what is most important it makes sounds!
yes, 'the original pocket electronic organ' is produced again!
u play it using a 'pen' connected to the stylophone with wire.

try it now, just turn on the speakers and drag a pen on the image below.

of course in a real one i have 3 different sounds, vibrato and volume control!
uh! u have to buy one of those!

you're not sure yet? so that's albinoni and his famous adagio, one of the best versions i've ever heard...

bowie used it too, but it's slightly hearable on this one.
however the clip is so great that i had to place it here.

archiving begins aka a concert in lejre

we played a concert in the culture house in lejre yesterday.

a small city with 3000 inhabitants famous for archeological experiments. about 40 years ago they builded a prehistoric village to burn it and bury what was left. then after 20 years they sent students of archeology and told them to dig it out so they could learn how to interpret this kind of excavations. what a story!

the concert was chaotic, but with a great feeling.
at least i felt like that...
15 members of the culture house were pleased.
at least they said so...
1st public solo on my brand new stylophone!
